Concept
"Now You See Me" revolves around a team of illusionists, the Four Horsemen, who execute a series of high-profile heists while being pursued by law enforcement, all under the guise of grand magic performances. Their true motive and the involvement of a secret society of magicians are slowly unveiled, keeping both characters and viewers guessing. The film expertly combines elements of mystery and suspense, culminating in a twist-filled finale that ties all the threads together.
The movie alludes to the concepts of intrigue and ambiguity by constantly keeping the audience on edge, never fully revealing the final picture until the end. This approach ensures that viewers remain deeply engaged, piecing together clues and speculating on the true nature of the Horsemen’s plan throughout the film.
For our
concept we wanted to evoke a sense intrigue by showcasing key film objects using methodical lighting, angles, and perspectives, through object transition. Through the use of deliberate movements, our aim was to mimic the fluidity associated with magic.
Process
We focused on setting up dynamic lighting, camera angles, and movement in Cinema 4D with our models. We imported our renders into After Effects to add a background, composite elements, apply an overall treatment, and added all of the typography.
Style & Lighting Reference
We mainly referenced the title sequence for Narcos because we really felt inspired by their dramatic lighting, dynamic movement, and the contrast of micro and macro shots.
StoryboardFor this storyboard, we went through rounds of trying to perfect dynamic angles and perspectives, as well as trying to successfully use object transition to go from object to object.
